No Day Better Than Today!!

Today is the day I start my personal challenge. I am lucky to have an amazing bestie (Angie) to help me through it all too! I love to be active but it has always been hard for me to work out on my own. I've had times where I put money in to trainers at the 24-Hour Fitness here in Boulder (back in college). I've worked out with teams (snowboard, swimming, diving, soccer). I've worked out with classes at the gym with my coach, Stephen. It's expensive to be part of a gym and gosh, have you seen the price of yoga classes?! It's so hard as a upper 20's individual trying to make it in this wonderful economy to find the time to be active and still have the money to afford healthy food, gym memberships, ski passes, etc. When you find a workout buddy, it's rare that their schedule matches up with mine. Not that I have that much of a (set) schedule...the crazy life I live! It's time to make improvements in my life. A healthy and fit body is a happy body!!

Lucky for me I have an amazing girlfriend who is in tune with her body and knows her stuff when it comes to the human body! Angie worked at the Mapleton branch of the YMCA of Boulder Valley for a long time. This is the gym I am joining (they offer financial assistance to those of us with less money). Angie and I are doing this together. Angie is going to be my personal trainer and I am her workout buddy!

Our goal is 20 pounds (and tighter bod) in 5 weeks. After that we will reassess and continue leading a healthy and happy lifestyle :) Another part of my goal is to update this blog every day (or at least ever other day) even if all I put is the workout that I/we do.

The toughest part for me is going to be waking up for these 6.30am workouts!! Waking up early should give me more time for errands and "me time." The other tough thing for me will be managing my workouts and eating right when I am on the road -- as I often am.

Day 1:

Warm-up: 4 lap run

Circuit: 3 x 45 seconds (350 calories)

  • split squat w/dumbell bicep
  • mountain climbers
  • dumbell lawnmower pulls while lunging
  • legs at 90 degree angle, bring bar (perpendicular) up to toes
  • kicks on bag
Dynamic Cooldown: 12 minutes on Stairs (75 calories, 40 floors)

Stretching

Tomorrow I will use the HR monitor and start time = 6.30am!!

Killing it!!

Joined a Gym (LTF)

It's that time to get my ass back in shape!! The injury has held me back from training all summer as much as I'd previously planned but now it's time to do this thing!! My knee is feeling great but I need it to be 100% for the snowboard season! I can't wait to shred pow again :)

I joined Lifetime Fitness in Westminster as reccommended to me by my good friend Leah...this is the reason I decided it was the right gym for me:

July 28: 40 laps in the pool.

July 29: Swam in Chattfield Reservoir ~250 yards or so.

July 30: Gym with Leah. 35 minutes on elliptical looking stair climber -- fat burner mode, resistance alternating from 2 to 5. Legs for ~10-15 minutes. Met potential new Trainer (Bill) and discussed my goals, etc. 15 minutes on stationary bike. 24 laps in the pool.

August 1: 23 minutes on elliptical at 166 target heart rate & 15 minutes on stationary bike at 154 target heart rate

August 3: Met with my new trainer (Bill) and worked on abs, glutes, shoulders, balance, and legs. Started with treadmill, then used weights, hte ball, etc.  He really knows what he's talking about, I'm excited to continue working with him! Picked out some supplements to start on (Cal/Mag 1001, Multi-Probiotic 4000, Omega-3 with Fish Oil, Peak Performance Whey Protein, & Women's Performance Multivitamin AM/PM). I finished up my workout with 20 laps in the pool.

August 6: 80 laps in the pool

Swam a mile :P

Well I swam a mile the other day, it wasn't that hard because I was pretty damn determined. I'd been out of the pool for too long and had one day at the gym where I swam 22 laps, the next day back in the pool I think I did 22 laps and 5 minutes of treading water. My next day back in the pool I looked on the wall and saw a sign saying how many laps were in a mile (72) and I was convinced I was going to swim the mile. I did it in about 45-50 minutes :)

I hadn't been in the pool for a while because I'd been playing and/or refereeing soccer 3-4 days a week and then trying to work my gajillion jobs on top of that! The pool is only open until 8.30pm or so and thus it is more difficult to do that if say I have a closing shift at Jimmy John's or a soccer game that is over at 8.15pm or something...

I am currently on vacation but when I get back to Summit County it's time to get in shape, the first snow has already come and the resorts will be open soon!! Found out that there are certain classes offered 6 days a week by the Silverthorne Rec Center that are free if you have a pass so I'm gonna start hitting up some of those classes to get full use of my pass/more in shape for the snowboarding season :)

I'm sooo much more active in the winter...

I don't mind snowboarding by myself but hiking or something in the summer just isn't that fun alone...I swim alone and I don't mind that but the pool has limited hours and sleep and work hinder those!!

I am really bad at updating this thing but I have still yet to try yoga :\ But (thanks to Autumn) I found free yoga every MWF...I just want someone to go with!! It's in Dillon Valley at the church (not related to church) and they have morning classes as well as night classes. Anybody?!!

Every Wednesday (except for 2) of the summer I have played soccer and 5 weeks I've also refereed soccer so that's been consistent :)

I can't remember everythinggggg that I did since I last updated but this past week here's what I got in for exercise: 104 laps of swimming (2 sessions), biking (for the first time in years) for Breckenridge Cruisers -- it was quite the workout for me, & Red Rocks hiking haha...whenever you go to a show there you are in for a good workout (I'm not kidding), especially since after the show I had to walk all the way to the main highway to meet up with my ride!!

Trying to keep it comin'! If you want to hike, hit up St. Mary's Glacier, do yoga, or something active hit me up!!!

Slowly but Surely

Wednesday night we had our 3rd soccer game...wasn't as fun for me as the last 2 because my ankle started killing me! Refereeing went well but by the time the game came along I was not feeling too hot. My best guess as to what happened was that I got a freakishly HUGE mosquito bite and I think that realllly weakened me (I'm allergic and didn't have any cortisone or Benadryll or anything with me) so we taped up my ankle for the second half but it was still pretty painful and I played less of the game ;( I'm excited for this week though, we should have matching team jerseys for the game and we have a full roster now too!!

I was also feeling quite groggy the past few days (I think same reasoning) so I haven't been as active as I'd wanted to be this week but that doesn't mean I'm giving up!!

Thursday morning I rested up my ankle and hung out by the outdoor pool at the Ritz Carlton in Bachelor's Gulch with Rachel and Travis...didn't have anything to drink (other than the 3 free refreshing tiny alcoholic blend samples) and ate healthy (veggie wrap with mozzarella cheese, zychini, & eggplant along with a super tasty fruit bowl) and then off to work!

Friday I swam 40 laps in between work and my promotion in Breck -- didn't have time to do more!!

Yesterday I squeezed in a visit to the Bacon Festival in Keystone (with Heidi) in between work at Jimmy John's and working at the Sporting News Grill in Frisco. I couldn't pass up a bacon festival! It's not every weekend there's so much tasty pig!!

I'm going to take Lola on a walk this morning (haven't since before Wednesday b/c of my ankle) for at least a mile before getting ready to head to the Bacon Festival again (with Charlie & Acker) and gonna catch the beginning of Yo Mamma's Big Fat Booty Band before we head to Red Rocks to meet up with Curtis and see Widespread Panic!! It's gonna be both Charlies' & Curtis' first time ever at Red Rocks!! Popping some cherries today!!

Off to start my day,

Finally a Summer of Active

So I haven't really been active during the summer (unless you count dancing at shows) since I was still in high school...I'm such an active person during the winter but in the summer I've strictly done the following: work, drink, go to shows, eat, & sleep.

This is the summer to change that and learn to live life actively year round, and here's my plan:
  • I joined the Silverthorne Rec Center on Saturday (6 month pass) and swam a nice 40 laps (and my goal was 20), I am going to aim for a swim workout 3 times a week (minimum)
  • When my neighbour Tamara gets back in town I am going to start going to kickboxing with her on Monday nights at this gym up the street, 9150 MMA
  • I joined a rec soccer team (for just $40 for the whole summer), HCSA, and we have games every Wednesday night (going to try to fit in practices if at all possible too) -- I am also getting back in to refereeing soccer (making money while being outside and running around!!)
  • I bought 2 hula hoops today from Target and I am going to start hula hooping in my spare time with Charlie (and anybody else interested)
  • I occasionally go play volleyball (for fun) at Carter Park in Breckenridge -- whenever I have free time in the day time and the sun is out -- just learned how to serve with 1 hand and not 2!!
  • I want to start doing yoga at least once a week...want a partner in crime though...don't really wanna go alone! I have never done yoga and I hear great things...I've wanted to try yoga for a while and now I need to just do it!!!
  • Workout journal to keep track of things and to keep me motivated :)
Ready? Break!!!
